HWGA Chapter 30: Move On

Thank you to all the people who liked and commented on the last chapter. As always, the purple bits are Hindi. My computers been a bit weird lately, I did make slight changes but I don't know if it saved so I apologise for the small mistakes. Enjoy :)

Chapter 30: Move On

Arnav was dazed. He really didn’t know what was happening. Before he could recover from that punch, he was hauled to his feet.

“Why Nanav, why?” asked NK as he shook him.

Arnav brushed off NK and tried to make a run for the ledge but NK caught him. “Let me go NK!”

“Not until you tell me why you’re doing this.” NK said as he held him tightly.

“I thought the reason was obvious but because you are so stupid, you probably don’t know.”

“Insulting me won’t work.”

“I want to die NK.” Arnav said as he stopped struggling.

“Why?!”

“Because I have nothing to live for.” Arnav broke down crying clinging on to NK and NK just held him.

Gupta Haveli

The ride to the Haveli was a silent one. Amba, Karan and Logan kept on exchanging glances at each other because they could see that Khushi was still fuming from that confrontation at the Sheesh Mahal. Logan held Khushi’s hand and squeezed it to show his support but she was too deep in thought to respond. Amba and Karan gave him a sympathetic look and he gave an understanding look back.

Soon they had arrived at the Haveli. Karan got out to call the servants to come and pick up the luggage and Amba got out to give Logan and Khushi some privacy.

“Khushi?” Logan said softly but she was still deep in her thoughts. He poked her slightly to make her come out of them. “Khushi, we’ve arrived.”

“Oh ok.”

Khushi turned to open the door but Logan stopped her.

“Are you ok?”

Khushi smiled. “I’m fine. I was just thinking about some things.”

“Care to share?”

“I was just thinking if Arnav would still do business with our company now that all this has happened.” She lied smoothly.

Logan sighed. “That’s not what you were thinking about at all and I know it. Just know that if you ever need to talk, I’m here for you.”

Khushi smiled a genuine smile and squeezed his hand. “Thank you.”

“Besides, we might not need him, our stocks have risen dramatically because of our new fairytale line. And if we stop working with him, the scandal will provide a lot of exposure further increasing our stocks. So stop worrying about work and relax.”

“You’re right.”

They exited the car and made their way into the house. When they got to the front door, they were greeted by Shashi, Garima and Buaji.

“I thought you were going to come back tomorrow morning.” Said Garima.

“We were but I got my memory back.”

Shashi, Garima and Buaji all pulled Khushi into a big hug.

“It’s good to have you back betiya.” Said Shashi.

“It’s good to be back Babuji.”

“So you just left and they let you go?” asked Garima.

“Not exactly. I told the whole Raizada family the truth.”

There was a collective gasp but Buaji spoke up. “Good. Now they can stop living in there stupid happy fake world and join the rest of us in reality. I hope they understand the magnitude of their actions. Oh I would give anything to see their faces Nandkishor.”

“Jiji!” scolded Garima. “You can’t say things like that.”

“Why not? They have said worse things to us Garima.”

Before things could escalate, Khushi stepped in. “Guys it’s nearly 3 am, can we please continue this in the morning?”

They all reluctantly nodded in agreement but then they noticed Logan.

“Who’s that Titaliya?” asked Buaji.

Khushi pulled him closer to her. “This is Logan and we are engaged.”

At first no one said anything but then they remembered all the things that he had done for Khushi and gave him a warm welcome into the family.

“So when are you getting married?” asked Shashi when they had finished welcoming him.

“Next month.” Said Khushi.

Sheesh Mahal, Roof

Arnav had finally calmed down. “How did you know?” he asked.

“Know what?”

“That I was going to commit suicide.”

“Khushiji once told me that you don’t think clearly when you’re angry or upset. I thought I’d follow you to make sure you wouldn’t do something stupid and I’m glad I did.”

“I don’t know whether to be happy or sad.”

“Trust me, you are happy. Imagine how Neha would feel if she found out her favourite uncle committed suicide on here wedding day? Imagine how guilty Di would feel, I’m sure she’d commit suicide too. And Aarav? He’d be become an orphan and he’d be devastated. Stop being selfish and start thing of others. Nanav, I get it that Khushiji was your life but you really should’ve gone after her a long time ago, it’s time to move on with your life.”

“I can’t NK.”

“Yes you can and I will help you. That’s what family does.”

HWGA Chapter 29: A Blow to the Face

Thank you to everyone who commented and liked the last chapter. I'm kind of ill and I wasn't going to update today but I tried my best so I apologise if I don't make sense or if it's short. Purple bits are Hindi. Enjoy :)

Chapter 29: A Blow to the Face

For the longest time after Khushi left, no one spoke. There was not a sound made, except for the servants cleaning up somewhere in the house and the crunch of Priti’s popcorn. Everyone was staring at Arnav who was staring into space. He hadn’t moved from that position since Khushi had finished her story. The look of defeat and heartbreak was etched all over his face, he looked like a dead man. Even though they all wanted to comfort Arnav, they knew that no matter what they said, it wouldn’t make anything better.

The silence was deafening and Aarav had had enough of it. He got up from his chair and slowly approached his father.

“Dad?” he asked tentatively. When Arnav didn’t move from his position, Aarav moved closer and put a hand on his shoulder. “Dad?”

Arnav raised his head. The look in his eyes just said it all. There was no life in them, just emptiness and drops of melancholy. He looked at Aarav like he was seeing him for the first time.

“Everyone go to bed.” He said.

“Dad-”

“Now!” he thundered.

The kids quickly scampered off to their rooms leaving the adults to deal with Arnav. Aarav squeezed his father’s shoulder in support before leaving too. Anjili approached him.

“Chote-”

“What Di?” he snapped. “What do you want now?”

Anjili was taken aback but she understood why he was lashing out at her. “Chote, I am genuinely sorry. I had no idea Shyam was capable of that.”

Arnav let out a laugh. “You had no idea? You had no idea! Even after everything we told you about him, you still had no idea what he was capable of?! Even after everything he did to you and Neha, you had no idea?” he began to clap slowly. “Well done Di. Well done. You are the densest person on Earth.”

“Chote-”

“What more can you say Di? You’ve already said you were sorry. Well sometimes sorry isn’t enough. Sorry isn’t going to bring Khushi back. Sorry isn’t going to give me back all the years I spent without her. Sorry isn’t going to undo what Shyam did to her daughter. Sorry isn’t going to get Khushi to love me again.”

“If she really loved you then why did she have a child with another man?” Anjili reasoned.

“She was raped!” screamed Arnav. “Amba is a child of rape!” Anjili stopped dead in her tracks. She didn’t know what to say. “What? You have nothing to say? Have I finally shut you up so you can’t cause any more damage?”

Viren came to his wife’s side. “Arnav, I know you’re angry and you have the right to be but you need to calm down before you do or say something you’ll regret.”

Arnav stared hard at his brother in law. “How can you defend her after everything she’s done? Wait, don’t tell me, it’s because you love her, right? You know I’ve always liked you Jijaji. I’ve always admired the way you took care of my sister. But like your daughters, you’ve spoilt her. It’s not your fault, I spoilt her before you did and so did our family and Shyam.”

Viren was about to speak again when Anjili stopped him. “It’s ok Virenji, Chote has the right to shout at me. I’m really sorry Chote, I didn’t know Khushiji was raped. I know it’s all my fault and that nothing I can do will change that.”

Arnav stared at his sister before smiling sadly. “Do you know what the sad thing is Di? I forgive you and I still love you. Because no matter what you do, did or will do, I will always forgive you and love you and I hate myself for that.”

“Chote-”

Arnav held up his hand to stop her. “No Di. Just please be quiet. I’ve forgiven you haven’t I? Just go to bed ok? It’s all in the past, forgive and forget, let by gones be by gones and etcetera etcetera. I’m going to bed.”

Diane, NK, Viren and Anjili all watched in concern as Arnav walked away. They watched as he climbed the stairs and disappeared from view. Arnav walked and walked, not really looking at where he was going. He didn’t stop when he passed the floor to his room or the next floor or the floor after that. He just climbed the stairs until he reached the roof. When he finally became aware of his surroundings, he pulled his phone out of pocket.

“Arman?”

“Yes sir?” replied a groggy voice.

“Contact my lawyer and ask who all my possessions go to when I die.”

“They go to your son.”

“Contact them now and get back to me.” Then Arnav cut the call.

Arman didn’t want to argue, he knew the faster he got his work done, the quicker he’d get some sleep. After contacting the lawyers, Arman phoned his boss.

“As I said before, everything goes to your son sir.”

“Thank you Arman.”

He cut the call and got up on the ledge of the roof. He really didn’t have anything to live for anymore. His sister was happily married and so were his cousins. He’s son was an adult now and an excellent businessman so he knew his business was in safe hands. He’s family was wealthy and well taken care off, they didn’t need him anymore and he didn’t want to live in a world where Khushi didn’t love him. This was for the best.

Just as he was about to throw himself off the ledge, a strong pair of arms wound around his waist and pulled him on to the roof. Before he could comprehend what was going on, he received a blow to the face.

Scars of the Past Chapter 1: We Found Love in a Hopeless Place

Hey Guy! I'm here with a new story. I know what you're thinking, "Why is this girl starting a new story when she hasn't finished her old one and barely has time to update?". The answer; I have a disease. If I have actual work, I prolong it as much as possible because I want to write and update and all that jazz. It's not good and I can't stop. Oh well, I'm not going to complain because I bring this on to my self. So enough about me, let's move on to the story.

Summery: it's about Arnav's parents and how they meet and how they struggle with their love. It's quite dark. The fist few chapters will be in the past. Before you stop reading, yes this is an ArHi story, I'm just setting up the background. Jeez you people are so impatient. Also, later chapters will be dark. It's a crap summary. Let's just say there's strict parents, star crossed lovers, whore house, death, blackmail and lots and lots of drama. Just read the first chapter and if you don't like it, don't continue.

Character sketch can be found here. Enjoy :)

Disclaimer: I don't own IPKKND or it's characters. However I do own this story.

Chapter 1: We Found Love in a Hopeless Place

Delhi 1983

It had been a very long day for the Malik’s. The oldest son, Abhi Singh Malik, had just turned 18 and that meant a huge celebration. The servants had worked their fingers to the bone and all the rich, high class people had attended the party to wish Abhi a happy birthday. No stone was left unturned to ensure that Abhi had the most unforgettable experience ever. Little did he know that the party was just the beginning.

It was around 11 o’clock and Vijeesh Singh Malik had invited Abhi to his study to have a glass of wine and to talk about the responsibilities that he now had.

“I know that you still need to go to university before you take over the business Abhi but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have responsibilities. This means that you’ll be spending less time with girls and more time with work. The Malik name is in your hands now, don’t tarnish it.” Said Vijeesh.

“Dad you know I’ve never looked at a girl twice. I’ve always been too busy with my studies.” Replied Abhi as he sipped his wine.

“Wait, are you telling me that you’ve never been with a girl before?”

“Of course, as you said, I shouldn’t tarnish the Malik name.”

Vijeesh burst out laughing. “Oh my boy, you can do that and have a little fun.”

Abhi was confused. “What do you mean?”

“Come with me my son, for tonight, you’ll finally become a man.”

Abhi had never questioned his father and he wasn’t about to start now. He knew that his father had a lot to drink today but he still trusted him. Vijeesh led Abhi outside and instead of heading towards their garage, he walked up to the road.

“Dad, are we going far?” asked Abhi.

“Yes.” Vijeesh replied whist trying to hail a taxi.

“Then why aren’t we taking the car?”

“We’re going to a place that if you take a car there, it’ll be stolen in 10 seconds.” Vijeesh had finally managed to hail a cab and was now gesturing for Abhi to get in. “Come on.”

Abhi hesitated. “Dad do you really think that this is a good idea? It’s nearly midnight and we’re obviously going to a dangerous part of town.”

“Just get in.”

No more questions were asked. Abhi got into the taxi and it drove off. He tried to figure out where they were going but after a while he couldn’t recognise the streets. Abhi had always lived in the rich part of town so he wasn’t used to seeing so much rubbish and ruin everywhere. It was all so bleak.

It became much darker and then a lot lighter. There were lights everywhere. A lot of men were hanging around the houses and a lot of women with brightly coloured sarees and too much make up were hanging around pretty much everywhere. A light bulb went off inside Abhi’s head when he finally figured out where they were.

“Dad, I think we’re in the wrong place.” He said.

“No we’re not.” Said Vijeesh as he climbed out.

“Dad this is the red light district.” Said Abhi, hoping that he’s father would realise his mistake and get back in the cab.

“I know, I’ve been here before.”

Dumbstruck, Abhi climbed out of the taxi and followed his father into one of the houses. He just couldn’t believe his father had been to a whore house before. Vijeesh looked back to see what was taking his son so long to follow him when he saw his expression.

“Look Abhi, I’m going to tell you some sad truths right now. Your mother and I don’t love each other. We got married to join our fathers’ companies. She has people to satisfy her needs and I have people to satisfy mine. It’s my fault really, I never gave my marriage a shot. Truth is, I never wanted to get married. But it is what it is. Now stop looking shocked and start looking handsome.”

Abhi chose to store that information away for another time because right now he needed to get out of this situation. “Dad, what are we doing here?”

“I’m going to give you a birthday present.”

“Dad, you already got me so much-”

“Shut up and let me spoil my eldest son.”

Abhi shut up and took a seat on one of the many filthy chairs in the reception. He was too tired and too shocked to do anything else.

Meanwhile, Vijeesh was having a conversation with the owner of the whore house.

“Vijeesh?” said the portly man in a dirty vest. “I haven’t seen you here in ages.”

“Virgins aren’t my thing anymore.”

The man let out a gruff laugh. “So why are you here?”

“I’m here to choose a girl for my son. I know you specialise in virgins and my son is one too.”

The man craned his neck to get a better view of Abhi. He whistled. “There’s no way that one is a virgin. Girls should be throwing themselves at him. I think he’s lied to you Vijeesh.”

“My son never lies to me.” He said seriously. “Now do you have a virgin or should I take my business elsewhere?”

“There’s no need to be like that. The virgins are very rare these days but I got one just this morning.”

“Has anyone touched her?”

“We give the girls a month to learn before they actually do the dirty.”

“Fantastic. Set up your most expensive room and get the girl cleaned up.”

“Of course Vijeesh. It’s only the best for you.”

Vijeesh went back to sit with his son and smiled at him.

Abhi tried to convince his dad to go back home again. “Dad, let’s go. It’s really late and you have work tomorrow.”

“I am the boss of my company Abhi and I can take a day off if I want. You are not getting out of this.” He said sternly.

Abhi sighed and waited for whatever was going to happen. 20 minutes later the owner came back grinning.

“Everything is set up.” He said.

“Good man.” Said Vijeesh as he handed the owner a large wad of cash. “Lead the way.”

The man led them up to the top floor of the whore house. When he reached the end of the corridor, he stopped and pointed at a door.

He gave Abhi a pat on the back. “Have fun.” He said and then he walked away.

Abhi looked at his father in confusion. “Dad why did he say ‘have fun’?”

Vijeesh could hardly contain his glee. “Open the door.”

Abhi opened the door to find a room with gold and red décor. The room looked better and more expensive than the entire whore house. There was soft music playing and incense burning. In the middle of the room stood a girl.

Abhi slammed the door instantly and gave his father a hard stare.

Vijeesh was slightly disappointed. “Why did you do that?”

“Let’s go home dad.” He said as he began to walk away.

“No.” he said firmly, stopping Abhi in his tracks. “I paid a lot of money for that room and that girl so you better enjoy it. Plus she’s a virgin so she won’t judge you.”

“I never asked for this!” Protested Abhi. “I don’t even know her.”

“Which makes this better. Now go in and have fun. I order you.”

“Dad-”

“Are you going to disobey me?”

Abhi stared long and hard at his father before he opened the door again, stepped inside the room and slammed the door shut behind him. He let out a frustrated cry and punched the wall.

After a while, he looked over at the girl who was still standing in the middle of the room. She was dressed in a green choli and a three quarter length lehenga. He moved to look at her face and stopped dead. She had the most innocent face of all the women he had ever seen. Her face was milky brown and flawless. Her hair was chocolate brown. Half of it was cascading down her front. It was so long that it went past her hips despite it being wavy. Her lips were pale pink and quivering. And her eyes held more than those magnetic orbs that pulled him in, they held fear.

“You’re really beautiful.” He blurted out.

She shifted nervously and nodded her head in acknowledgment. “Thank you sir.”

He realised what he had just said and mentally berated himself. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to have sex with you.” He said reassuringly.

She visibly relaxed before stiffening again. Then she whispered, “If you don’t, some one else will.”

Her voice was so musical that it took a moment before what she said registered in Abhi’s brain. He then felt an anger that he’d never felt before. He couldn’t quite understand where it was coming from but he knew that he didn’t want anyone to touch something so pure and taint it.

He sighed. “Look, you seem like a decent girl, you shouldn’t be in a place like this.”

She laughed bitterly. “You really think this was my choice? My parents sold me because we’re so poor. They couldn’t afford to get me married off so now I’m here. I’ve tried escaping many times today but they always manage to find me and drag me back.”

Abhi was shocked and deeply saddened to hear her story. “I’m really sorry.” Then he had an idea. “I’ll try and see if I can buy your freedom.”

“Thank you but it won’t work. The owner never sells anyone, no matter what the price, he made that very clear.” She paused for a while before she came to a decision. “You seem like a gentleman, I honestly wouldn’t mind losing my virginity to you.”

“And I you but-”

“Please.” She begged. “You can try and negotiate but it won’t work and then some other man will come in and take it from me. Maybe some one who isn’t as nice as you.”

“You really want me to make love to you?”

“Yes.” She said in defeat. A small tear fell from her eyes but she quickly wiped it. “This is what my life is going to be like from now on so I might as well get used to it.”

Abhi hesitated. She was a very beautiful girl but he didn’t want to take advantage of her. “I’m a really rich man. Let me just talk to my father about this.”

He quickly exited the room and went to find he’s father. When he finally found him, he saw that he was getting a lap dance from a young girl. He swallowed the disgust and disappointment and approached him.

“Dad?”

He’s father waved the girl off. “That was quick. Are you ready to go?”

“No I haven’t, that’s not why I’m here. Dad I want to buy that girl.”

Vijeesh burst out laughing. “You’re joking right?” He then saw his son’s face and straightened up. “No.”

“Why?”

“We use the whore but we never take them home, do you understand?”

“But dad-”

“No buts! We are not buying her. Now you can come and enjoy her as much as you like but we are not buying her!”

Vijeesh then signalled for the girl to keep doing what she was doing and Abhi took it as a sign that he was dismissed. He trudged back to the room to meet and expected girl.

“What did your father say?” she asked.

“What’s your name?”

“Shruthi.”

He came close to her, cupped her face gently and kissed her softly. Shruthi could tell by the way that he kissed her that the conversation hadn’t gone well.

“I’m so sorry Shruthi.” He whispered as he rested his forehead on hers.

“It’s ok, at least you tried.” She whispered back.

“I’ll try something else I promise.”

She sighed, she knew that he was of a pure heart. “What’s your name sir?”

“Abhi Singh Malik.”

“Make love to me.”

“What?”

“In case your trying doesn’t bare fruit, let’s just pretend that tonight we know and love each other.”

“Are you sure?”

She looked in his eyes and he could see that she honestly wanted this. He didn’t waste anymore time. He captured her lips again but this time savouring her in case he couldn’t make good on his promise.

HWGA Chapter 28: Over My Dead Body

Thank you everyone who like and commented on the last chapter. The purple bits are Hindi, the bold bits are the past and the italics are thoughts. By the way it's 12am here, so if there are any mistakes, I apologise. Yes, I know I'm stupid and I have college in 8 hours but I had to write this up, my fingers were itching. Enjoy :)

Chapter 28: Over My Dead Body

“Khushiji I admit that I drove you out of the house but I’ve done nothing to your daughter.” Defended Anjili.

“Maybe not directly but you did do something indirectly.” Said Khushi.

“What did I do?!” demanded Anjili.

“Did you or did you not give Shyam a large amount of money and the best private detectives you can find?”

“I did and I’m ashamed of the influence that he had on me.”

“Do you know what he did with the resources you gave him?”

“No I don’t.”

“I’ll show you.” She turned to Amba. “Amba take off your trousers.”

Amba frowned in confusion. “Umm mum did you say trousers?”

“Yes take them off.”

“Mum-”

“Amba do it!”

Without another word, Amba stood up, unzipped her trousers and took them off. She stepped out of them, picked them up and stood in her panties. Everyone was incredibly uncomfortable at this point and were looking anywhere and at anything but Amba.

“Khushi was this really necessary?” asked Karan.

“Yes. Amba come here and show them your right leg. Look at what happens when you refuse to believe in the truth no matter how much evidence we show you.”

Amba walked over to her mother. Purely because they were curious, everyone turned to look at her right leg. It looked like any other leg until they reached right above her knee. There was a huge, ugly scar running from just above her knee to just below her hip. Everyone’s mouth dropped in horror and disgust. Seeing as everyone had seen her scar, Amba decided to put her trousers back on and take her seat.

It was a stormy night in London. Normally, Khushi would’ve been scared out of her wits. She hated thunder and lightening but now that she was a mother, her main priority was to her 3 month old baby, Amba. She was trying to put Amba to sleep when the phone rang.

“Hello?”

“Khushi, it’s me Karan. I’m going to be late.”

“What?!”

“I’m really sorry, I know how much you hate thunder storms. Listen, I’ve asked Jenny to come and check up on you and she was nice enough to suggest staying until I got home. She said she had some chores to finish and she’ll be right over when she’s done. By the way, Nik is staying with my parents so you don’t have to worry about him.”

“Ok Karan. Just come back as quickly as possible.”

“Alright Khushi I’ll try.”

Khushi hung up the phone and held Amba close. Amba had fallen asleep long ago but Khushi liked the comfort of her baby especially through times of thunder storms.

She heard the front door open so she set Amba down in her crib.

“Karan? Is that you?” she asked into the darkness.

She was just about to reach for the lights when she heard footsteps coming towards her. Then everything went black.

Khushi woke up tied to her bed. She lifted her head up to find Shyam holding her baby. Her eye widened to saucers and she struggled vigorously against her bonds.

“Oh Khushiji, it’s nice to see that you’re finally awake.” He said with his perverted grin. Khushi starting screaming at the top of her lungs but Shyam just laughed. “It’s no use Khushiji. It’s raining like hell and there’s a thunder storm going on. No one’s coming to your rescue.”

“Untie me Shyamji.” She demanded whilst struggling against her bonds.

“I’m afraid I can’t do that. You see, you’ve been very naughty. First you get married to Arnav, then you have me kicked out of the house and now you have a child with a random man. What part of ‘you are mine’ don’t you understand?”

“I’m not yours and I never have been. I never loved you. You had a great thing with Anjiliji but you chose to throw it all away. If you didn’t love her, you should’ve gotten a divorce.”

He tutted. “Here’s what’s going to happen Khushiji; I’m going to make you mine, we are going to leave this spawn here, then we’re going to get married and live happily ever after.”

“Over my dead body!”

“Suit yourself. But it won’t be your dead body.”

He brought out a knife from no where. It was long and the blade glittered in the dark. He brought up the knife and cut open Amba’s night cloths on her right leg.

“No stop! Please.” Khushi begged. “She’s just a baby. Please don’t do this.”

“I think you need to know just how serious I am Khushiji.”

He proceeded to plunge the knife into Amba’s right leg, just above her knee, and dragged it all the way up her thigh. A high pitched wail escaped from Amba’s lips as she began to cry her eyes out. Her pink and white night cloths were stained with vivid red splatters.

Shyam was about to bring the knife down again when Khushi spoke: “Shyamji, make love to me. I now understand that I am yours and that I’ve been a bad girl by sleeping around with other men. Please make love to me.”

Shyam considered continuing with the torture of innocent Amba but he could hear the sincerity in Khushi’s voice.

Khushiji really wants to sleep with me. She finally understands that she’s mine.

He quickly and carelessly put the still crying Amba back in her crib and made his way towards Khushi. Tears began to fall from Khushi’s eyes as Amba’s cries echoed around the room. He was a foot away from her when he fell down. Khushi looked at the unconscious body of Shyam in confusion and then back to the place where he had stood. To her relief, Jenny was standing there with a frying pan in her hand. She then proceeded to bash Shyam on the head a couple more times before she rushed over to Khushi.

“Are you ok?” she asked.

“Amba!” screamed Khushi.

“Don’t worry.” She said whilst untying Khushi. “I noticed the front door was open so I came in and I witnessed the whole thing. I’m sorry I didn’t stop him from cutting Amba but I was waiting for the right time to step in. I’ve already called the police and an ambulance. I’ll call Logan to come and tie up this scumbag and you try to staunch Amba’s bleeding.”

“If Jenny hadn’t come then I don’t want to imagine what might’ve happened.”

Diane, Arnav, Anjili and Viren all stumped at the shear weight of the past that was bearing down on them. None of them could’ve fathomed that that had actually happened to Khushi.

Jake turned to Amba. “Dude, did you know any of this?”

“No. I was told that I got this at an accident in the playground. I didn’t really question it, I was a clumsy child.”

Priti stuffed another bunch of popcorn in her mouth. “This just gets better and better.” The rest of the kids turned to give her a berating stare. “What?” she asked defensively.

Finally Khushi spoke again. “If you are satisfied, Mr Riazada, I’m going to be going now. Amba let’s go.”

Khushi grabbed her bag and Logan helped her with them. Amba stood up and gave the kids a quick goodbye before joining her mother, father and Logan. All four of them advanced to the front door and this time Arnav didn’t try to stop them.

AHEA Epilogue

I just want to thank everyone who read this story and was there from start to finish. I know it's not the normal kind of story you people read on this forum but thank you guys for liking and commenting on it. Here is the epilogue, enjoy :)

Epilogue

It had been 2 years since Shyam had gone to prison and since then everyone’s lives had changed for the better.

Payal had given birth. Akash and Payal were now the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl who was spoilt beyond imagination. Her family never allowed her feet to touch the ground and they were always super protective of her. Tara, however was a humble little girl who was wise beyond her years. Now Akash and Payal were expecting their second child and Tara couldn’t be more excited to meet her new sibling.

Arnav’s business was booming as always. In fact he had offers to extend it to Europe and America. Khushi’s business wasn’t doing too bad either. Her catering business had gotten many positive reviews and now it was a 5 star service. Arnav and Khushi were expecting their first child. And that meant that Arnav was forever dithering around Khushi and not allowing her to lift a finger. She in turn would give Arnav numerous heart attacks by sneaking off to work to make sure her business was running smoothly. Their rolls had been reversed. Khushi was acting like Arnav and Arnav was acting like Khushi. They’d argue constantly and eventually make up. One thing was for sure though and that is that they loved each other immensely.

NK had met a lovely girl in Australia. They had been dating for a year when he decided that it was time for the family to meet her. When they had arrived in India, they were received with a warm welcome. Everyone had made sure that she was treated like a member of the family and she in turn immersed herself in their religion and culture. After doing some background checks and getting the families approval, NK was going to propose to her next week.

Mamiji and Mamaji decided that it was time for them to retire. They purchased a beautiful house in Nanital and would often come back to Dehli to visit the family. They now lived a quiet life of shopping and gardening.

Naniji had decided that she wanted to visit the world. So Arnav had hired a bodyguard and a nurse for her. They had sorted out all the paper work out, gotten her a passport and gave her some money to have fun with. She had travelled to Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar. She had briefly travelled back to India to meet NK’s girlfriend to give her approval and then she was off again. She’s currently in Morocco now. She always manages to send them pictures and presents from her travel.

And Anjili. Well she had her life in order now. She had finally finished her interior decorating course and now was working in a prestigious interior decorating company. She’s currently dating a man who makes her feel like the only girl in the world. At first she was wary of him because of her past experience with men but he managed to break down her walls. She trusted him completely and that scared her. She had told him everything about her past to try and scare him off but all he did was hug her and tell her he loved her. She hadn’t said it back but now she knew that she loved him too. She didn’t know where this was going and she didn’t want to, she just wanted to live in the present.

You might have thought that I forgot to mention Shyam. I didn’t. He was still rotting in prison and he would continue rotting in prison for a long time. As long as there is a Raizada around, Shyam will forever be in jail.

AHEA Chapter 11: Moving On

This is the last chapter before the epilogue guys.

Chapter 11: Moving On

It had been 2 weeks since Anjili moved back into the Raizada Mansion. It had also been a day since Payal and Akash announced that they were expecting their first child. They had been very nervous about it and once it was announced everyone had turned to look at Anjili. To their surprise, she was completely supportive.

Today Anjili had decided to hold a family meeting. She was getting tired of hushed talks about the baby and no one was including her in any of this. She knew that everyone thought she was going to have a nervous breakdown but they were wrong.

She had the entire family gathered around before she started talking.

“First of all, I want to say congratulations again to Akash and Payal.”

They both said: “Thanks Di.”

“I also would like to request something. I want people to stop talking in hushed tones about the baby. Some people even go so far as to stop talking about the baby all together when I enter the room.”

“Actually Di, umm we just thought umm-” started Payal.

“I love that you guys are trying to be sensitive about this.” Cut in Anjili. “But I chose to get an abortion. I didn’t have a miscarriage. So can you please stop all this nonsense? I am just as excited to become an aunt as Payalji is excited to become a mother. I can’t wait to spoil the new Raizada.”

She looked back at her family and they were still shuffling about uncomfortably.

She sighed. “I promised to tell you guys why I got the abortion when you were ready. I think you guys are ready. Firstly, I knew I wouldn’t have been able to love that child. I knew who its father was and there would be a constant fear that it would turn out like him. Or if it was a boy then it would look like Shyam. I just couldn’t take that. And when it grew up and asked about it’s father, what would I tell it? No child wants to know that their father was a vile repulsive man who is capable of murder.”

“But Di-”

“Please let me finish. I wanted to have the baby and give it up for adoption but I knew you guys would never let me do that. It was part Raizada and you would force me to raise it and look after it and I wouldn’t be able to do that properly because I wouldn’t love it. If you guys did let me give it up for adoption, then you’d all feel guilty; you’d constantly check up on it to make sure it was ok. Eventually it would find out who it’s real family was and come asking questions. Questions that only have harsh answers. I know you think I’m selfish for doing something like this but I thought about it constantly before I made my decision and I don’t regret it. I’ve made peace with what I have done.”

Everyone was quiet. They were processing all the information that Anjili had given them. Finally Arnav spoke.

“I understand now Di and I respect your decision.”

Akash stepped forward and hugged Anjili. “Me too Di.”

One by one, the entire family hugged Anjili and showed their support. Eventually they dispersed.

“Now enough about me.” Said Anjili. “Let’s talk about what we are going to buy our new niece or nephew.”

The whole family began chatting about the things that they would need to buy for their newest member. They talked about baby proofing the house, what room to convert into a nursery and all sorts of things related to babies. They also had an unspoken mutual agreement never to bring up Shyam or Anjili’s abortion again. Because they were family and they loved and supported each other no matter how many obstacles the world threw at them.

AHEA Chapter 10: Progress

Chapter 10: Progress

It had been 4 months since Anjili moved out of the Raizada Mansion and she was slowly getting better. The family would often come visit her in her apartment which wasn’t too far away from the mansion and she in turn would visit them at RM. A month after leaving, she had introduced her family to her therapist and they began working out some stuff together as a family. It had helped them through a lot and they had become a lot closer. Now they frequently went with Anjili.

Her therapist knew that she was 90% better. He had even worked through her anger issues and her limp was now gone but there was something that needed to be done before she could fully become a new person. And he knew just what to do. After one of the family sessions, he had asked Khushi to stay behind.

“Mrs Raizada, would you mind helping me with something?” he asked Khushi.

“That depends on what it is.” She replied.

When the therapist explained what needed to be done, she was all game.

It was a bright Sunday morning and Anjili was sleeping in when she heard a knock on her door. She groaned. She didn’t want to wake up now, she had stayed up all night working on her college project. She turned over and pulled the pillow to cover her ears but the knocking didn’t stop.

She got up and stalked to the door getting ready to unleash the famous Raizada wrath. She ripped open the door to find her sister-in-law standing there.

“Babhi?” she said in surprise. “I don’t mean to be rude but why are you waking me up so early?”

“Your phone was off. What if there was a family emergency?”

“There’s a family emergency?!” asked Anjili in alarm.

“No no.” said Khushi trying to calm her down. “I was just saying that you shouldn’t turn your phone off because if there was a family emergency, we wouldn’t be able to reach you.”

“Oh ok. But the question still remains, what are you doing here?”

“It’s a surprise. Get dressed.”

Anjili’s eyes lit up. She loved surprises. “Surprise? What kind of surprise?”

“If I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise. Now get dressed.”

Anjili quickly got dressed and followed Khushi to the car.

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“It’s a surprise.”

Soon the car pulled up outside her therapist’s clinic. Anjili gave Khushi a look.

“Just trust me ok.” Said Khushi before entering.

Khushi had a brief conversation with the receptionist and they were directed in to a big room with a lot of gym mats on the floor. Anjili’s therapist was there sitting on a bench.

“Ah you’re both here. Good. Now put on these fat suits.” He said and handed them their fat suits.

“Is this a joke?” asked Anjili.

“No, now come on.” Said Khushi pulling her into a changing room.

A few minutes later, both of them came out of the changing room in their fat suits.

“I feel stupid.” Said Anjili.

“You’re about to feel a whole lot better.” Said Khushi.

Anjili’s therapist handed her a long foam bat.

“Go on.” He said. “Take your anger out on Khushi.”

“This is ridiculous. I don’t hate Khushiji.”

“Di, we are just trying to help you.” Said Khushi. “You’ve already had your revenge on Shyam but you haven’t had your revenge on me. So go on hit me. I am the cause of all of this-”

Khushi didn’t get to finish her sentence because Anjili had whacked her with the foam bat. She continued whacking her and Khushi just stood there and took it.

“I hate you! It’s all your fault! I’m miserable now and you are happy. It’s not fair. You’ve taken away everything I hold dear. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.” She screamed at Khushi.

After a while, Anjili dropped her bat and started crying. Khushi waddled close to her.

“I’m sorry Khushiji. I don’t really hate you.” She hiccupped.

“I know Di.” She said whilst trying to pat Anjili’s back. It was hard to comfort her because they were wearing fat suits. “You just needed to get that pent up frustration and anger out.”

“I know it’s not your fault and I didn’t mean anything I said. Honest-”

“I know, I know. I agreed to do this to help you. How do you feel?”

“Like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.” She said honestly.

“Are you ready to come home or are you going to stay in your apartment still?”

“No, I want to come home. I miss my family.”

Khushi smiled. “It’s good to have you back Di.”

Anjili returned her smile. “It’s good to be back babhi.”

HWGA Chapter 27: Damage

Guys my college just started again and already I have a huge pile of work and that is why I can't update this story daily. It's too hard on top of all the work I already have so I will try to update weekly. So to all the people who have requested daily updates, I'm sorry but this is too much of an important year for me. With that being said, thank you to all the people to have commented and liked the last chapter. As always, purple is Hindi and bold bits are the past. Enjoy :)

Chapter 27: Damage

Arnav turned to his sister who was staring at the floor in shame.

“What is she talking about Di?” he asked.

“Chote, you have to understand that I was very angry and upset when I did this.” She tried to explain.

“When you did what?”

“When I drove Khushiji away.”

The sleeping pills that she had mixed in Arnav’s milk should keep him asleep until morning. She had called Karan earlier and he had agreed to help her start a new life. She had written a note to explain to him why she was leaving. That note had taken her a week to write because every time she started it she wanted to cry. She left the note along with his mother’s bangles and the signed divorce papers.

She got out a small suitcase from underneath the bed and began packing quickly and quietly. She kept glancing over at Arnav to make sure that he wouldn’t wake up and stop her. Every time he made a noise or shifted, she froze.

Finally she was all packed and ready to go. She looked over at her ex husband one more time, he was blissfully unaware of what was happening. She made her way to the bed and stole one last kiss before turning her back and leaving the room.

She had made it to the front door when she realised how stupid she was being. Arnav loved her. He had said so himself. And she loved him too. It didn’t make any sense to run away from this. So what if the circumstances for their marriage were unorthodox? It didn’t matter anymore. The truth was out about Shyam and their marriage. Sure people were still getting used to the idea but no one was against them being together.

She smiled. She was going to call Karan and tell him she planned to stay with her husband. Then she’d go upstairs and tear up the divorce papers before unpacking and snuggling up next to her husband. She was just about to do this when she heard a noise behind her. She turned to find Anjili staring at her.

“Khushiji?” she asked. “Is that you?”

“Yes Di.”

Anjili frowned. “What are you doing? It’s the middle of the night.”

Khushi tried to hide her bag. “Nothing Di.”

“Were you thinking about leaving Chote?”

“Yes but-”

“Good.”

Khushi was stunned. “What?”

“Well, he only married you because of me, he didn’t marry you because he loved you. Plus he just made you sign a contract and you guys didn’t get married the proper Hindu way, so your marriage is hardly valid.” She said in a-matter-of-fact way.

“What do you mean?”

“Did you do the pheras?”

“No but-”

“Was there a priest?”

“No.”

“Then it’s not a proper marriage. But what you did was admirable. You did it to save your sister’s marriage and he did it to save mine. Except it was a bit pointless because you both ruined my marriage.” She said harshly.

“Di, I’m really sorry-”

“I know Khushiji. I also know that it isn’t your fault but every time I look at you I remember my husband’s betrayal and that hurts because he loved you more than he loved me.”

“No Di.”

“It’s true. If it wasn’t for you I’d still be happily married. My husband wouldn’t have strayed if it wasn’t for you!” she accused.

“Di please.” Khushi begged. “We told you the truth. I didn’t do anything. I always refused his advances and treated him like a brother.”

“Then why was he still after you?”

“Because he doesn’t understand the meaning of no. I only love Arnavji.” She insisted.

“Is that because he has enough money to give you everything you could ever want?”

Khushi was tearing up. She didn’t understand why Anjili was being so callous towards her. “No Di, I love him because of who he is.”

“Really? Because you used to hate him and then suddenly you loved him. Honestly, girls like you make me sick.”

Khushi was in floods of tears by this point. “Di, I promise you it’s not like that.”

“Really? Look at it from my perspective Khushiji. You come in to my world and seduce all the men in my life. You turn my husband, my cousins and even my brother against me. So tell me, what am I supposed to think?”

Khushi could see why Anjili would think that. I mean, from Anjili’s position, it did look bad.

“Di, if there is anything I could do to change your mind-”

“You can leave.”

“What?”

“Leave. Otherwise, I’m going to make your life as miserable as you made mine.”

Khushi looked in Anjili’s eyes to see if she was serious but all she could find was a cold empty shell. She couldn’t take it anymore; she grabbed her bag and ran out of the house. She didn’t want to stay if she wasn’t welcomed.

Karan was waiting outside with a taxi when he saw her heading his way wiping her tears.

“What happened Khushi?” he asked with concern.

“Nothing. Just take me away please.”

He didn’t probe her further. He made her sit in the taxi while he put her luggage in the trunk. As soon as he was seated, they left the Raizada Mansion behind.

The only people who looked surprised and shocked at the events of the past were the kids and Arnav.

“Shit!” whispered Sanjay to Priti. “I never knew your mum was capable of something like that.”

“I did.” She replied. “I mean, where do you think I get my vindictiveness from? My dad wouldn’t hurt a fly.”

“He’s a surgeon.” Said Sachin.

“Yes but that’s he’s job. He doesn’t take pleasure in it.”

Arnav looked at his sister who was still looking at the floor.

“Tell me it’s not true Di. Tell me please.” He begged.

“I’m sorry Chote. I really am.”

He turned away from her in disgust. “Because of you, I lost the love of my life!”

“I know Chote-”

“No you don’t!” he yelled.

“Yes I do!” she shouted back. “Because I had lost mine too and that’s why I did what I did.”

Before they could continue their argument, Khushi stepped in. “Look guys, you can squabble later but I’m leaving now.”

“Wait Khushi. You said you have forgiven us.” Said Arnav.

“I have.” She replied.

“Then give me one last chance.”

“No because I’m fed up of your family trying to ruin my life and my daughter getting caught in the middle of it.”

“What do you mean?”

“I can forgive you for anything that you have done or might do to me but when my daughter is concerned, then I can’t forgive anything. Anjili obviously still has some explaining to do because driving me out wasn’t the only damage she did.”

AHEA Chapter 9: Acceptance

Chapter 9: Acceptance

Arnav lightly knocked on Nani’s door.

“Come in.” she said.

Arnav opened the door and peered in. Nani was sitting on the rocking chair, petting Lakshmi and looking at a photo album.

“What are you doing Nani?” he asked.

“Looking back on simpler times.” She said showing him the pictures she was looking at. “I’ve always hated the concept of growing old but I despised it when I had children.”

“Why?”

“Because you constantly worry about them. You can take care of your kids until they become an adult, then they take care of themselves. But they never really grow up in your eyes. Even when they get married and have kids of their own you still see them as that baby that needed your constant attention. You don’t trust them to make the right decisions because you think they’re not old enough. You want to supervise everything they do but you can’t.”

Nani turned the page and it was full of pictures of her daughter with baby Anjili smiling at the camera.

“I always thought your mother was too young to marry.” Said Nani. “She was only 23 when the proposal came. I tried to talk your Nanaji out of it but he said it didn’t look good to have an unmarried woman in the house. She was happy enough to get married and soon, loved your father very much.”

Arnav fisted his hands and clenched his jaws. He hated speaking about his father.

“I don’t want to talk about him-”

“I know you don’t.” interrupted Nani. “But there was a time when she was his whole world and he hers. And they both loved you very much. You and Anjili. I don’t know who cast an evil eye on our family because this thing just keeps happening.”

“What thing?”

“A married man in our family will seduce an innocent girl and everything will be ruined. First it was your father and now Shyam. Of course Anjili is taking this better than your mother did in some ways.”

“She didn’t try and kill herself.” Arnav reminded her.

“She killed her child.” She snapped.

“Would you have preferred it if both of them were gone?” he retorted.

“I would prefer things to go back the way they were.”

“Everyone would prefer that Nani.”

“I worry about her Chote.”

“So do we but we need to support her in this.”

“What if it’s not the right thing to do?”

“We need to take a leap of faith. We need to let her know that we are there for her if she needs us.”

“Do you really think this is wise?”

“Di is a Raizada which means she’s strong willed and stubborn and I can see it in her eyes that she really wants to do this. She will do this whether we support her or not. So isn’t it best to just support her?”

Nani thought for a while before she spoke again. “If anything goes wrong, I blame you.”

Arnav shrugged. “That’s ok. Now let’s go and tell Di before she cries another river.”

AHEA Chapter 8: Support and Restraint

Chapter 8: Support and Restraint

It was 8 o’clock and Anjili still hadn’t shown up. It was a mutual agreement in the family that they wouldn’t eat dinner until Anjili was back. Akash was about to call her on her phone when she came through the front door.

“I’m sorry I’m late.” She said. “I didn’t realise that so much time had gone past. Have you eaten?”

“We were waiting for you.” Said Naniji coldly.

“I’m really sorry. Just give me 2 seconds to freshen up and I’ll join you.”

Anjili rushed up the stairs and came down 5 minutes later. She joined them at the table and everyone started eating.

After lunch, Anjili tried to sneak away but was stopped by Naniji.

“Anjili, where are you going?” she asked.

“To my room Nani. I’m very tired, it’s been such a long day and I have college tomorrow.”

“We need to talk so sit down.”

“Yes Nani.”

Everyone turned to look at Arnav expectedly. Arnav sighed.

“So Di,” he began, “How was house hunting?”

“I found some great apartments but they were either not in my price range or not good enough.”

“If you need financial aid-”

“No thanks Chote. I really prefer it if you let me do this by myself.”

“Of course Di, I’m behind you a 100%.” He said sincerely.

Anjili was touched. “Thank you Chote. That means a lot.”

“Chote!” yelled Naniji. “What are you doing?”

“Telling Di that I support and respect her decision.”

“What?!” said Nani in outrage.

“Nani, we need to give Di space to grow. If she thinks this is what’s best for her then as a family, we should support her.”

“But-”

“He’s right Dadi.” Said Akash. “I support you Di.”

Anjili was tearing up in happiness. “Thank you so much.”

“I support you too.” Said Payal.

“Me too.” Said Khushi.

Anjili flung herself at them in happiness and held them tight. She hadn’t left this happy or light in a long time.

“No!” screamed Naniji.

“Nani-”

“No! I am still the elder of the house and I forbid you to leave this house until you’re married.”

With that she walked off.

AHEA Chapter 7: Lunch Insecurities

Chapter 7: Lunch Insecurities

It was around lunchtime when Khushi decided to go and surprise her husband with lunch. She left her company and took a car to AR. She was heading up to her office when Aman spotted her.

“Khushi babhi.” He said when he spotted her.

“Namaste Amanji, I’m just here to have lunch with Arnavji.”

“Can I talk to you before you have lunch with ASR?” he asked nervously.

“Sure.”

“Umm it’s probably not my place to say but sir has been acting very strangely lately.”

Khushi frowned. “What do you mean?”

“Well, since he started dating you, he’s been less ASR and more human. And when he married you he was like a boss sent down from heaven. But today he’s back to his old self. He’s yelling at us for no reason and staring into space. He hasn’t done any work since he got here this morning and when I asked him why, he blamed it on me. I just thought I’d warn you before you went in.”

“Thank you Amanji, I’ll have a word with him.” She then saw the panic in Aman’s eyes. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell him you said anything.”

“Thank you Khushi babhi.”

Aman went back to doing his job and Khushi went up to Arnav’s office. She went in without knocking and saw him staring out into space.

“Arnavji?” asked Khushi with concern.

He looked up. “Khushi what are you doing here?”

“I thought I’d surprise you with lunch.”

“Thanks but I’m not hungry. Feel free to keep me company while you eat.”

“Yeah like I’m going to let that happen. You’re going to eat and then take your pills even if I have to force you.”

Arnav smirked. “I like it when you’re forceful.”

Khushi blushed. “Besharam!”

Khushi came to his desk and started to feed him whilst eating herself. They ate in silence. After they finished eating, she gave Arnav he’s pills.

“So what’s wrong?” she asked.

“What do you mean?”

“You’re staring out into space and you’re employees are on edge. Something’s up.”

“They should be on edge.”

“Arnavji.”

“What do you want me to say Khushi?”

“I want you to open up to me. I want you to confide in me because I am your wife.”

There was a long pause before Arnav spoke. “I don’t know who Di is anymore.” He said in a small voice. “And that scares me.”

Khushi went and hugged him. “It’s going to be ok Arnavji.”

“How do you know?”

“Because it’s always darkest before the dawn. She’s seeing a therapist and I’m sure that they are helping her get her life together and as soon as she’s better, she’ll come back and live with us again.”

“What if she doesn’t?”

“Then we’ll respect her decision of independence and hope she doesn’t forget her family. The more we push her, the more she’ll pull away. We need to let her have some space to figure out who she is. We can’t help her do this but we can be there to support her through it.”

Arnav smiled. “I married such a wise woman.”

Khushi grinned. “I know.”

Arnav held her close. “Yeah? What else do you know?”

Khushi brought her face closer to his and then slipped out of his grasp. “I know that lunch is over and that we should be getting back to work.”

As she was leaving, Arnav called: “You own me a kiss.”

“You can collect it tonight.” She said before leaving.
