HWGA Chapter 6: Rollercoaster

The purple bits are meant to be Hindi. My Hindi is terrible so I'm not going to attempt it and confuse you poor people. Italics are thoughts.

Chapter 6: Rollercoaster

3 and a half weeks later

Lawson’s Limited

It had been 3 and a half weeks since Khushi had gotten into the accident and had shown little signs of coming out of her induced coma. Amba had taken off 2 weeks off her work until her father came back from America to take care of her mother and then she had thrown herself into work. The past 3 and half weeks had been an emotional rollercoaster for everyone and they were all exhausted and praying for Khushi to wake up soon.

Amba was working on her pitch when she heard a knock at the door. When she looked up to see who it was she was shocked. Arnav Singh Raizada. She sighed. She really didn’t have the patience today to deal with him but she plastered a smile onto her face and motioned him to come inside.

“I hope I’m not disturbing you.” He said politely. She stared at him like he had grown 5 heads and was eating the furniture. He smiled at her expression before continuing. “I’m sorry about my behaviour last time we met; I was having a bad day.”

She gawked at him but them composed herself. “It’s ok.”

“It’s just my schedule was mixed up and then I didn’t meet with Logan Lawson and so I got angry. I hope you can forgive me.”

She gave him a strange look. “Of course sir, it’s not your fault the person who was supposed to schedule you and the person you were meeting with was in the hospital in the same day. You’re forgiven.”

“Thank you.” There was a pause and Arnav began to stare at her again. She gave him a questioning look and he realised what he was doing. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stare but you look really familiar.”

“Perhaps you’ve seen me on T.V.?” She suggested.

“No, I’m sure it’s nothing. Oh well, I’ll leave you to get on with it.” He turned to leave but paused at the door. “I hope your mother’s fine.”

She frowned. “How did you know about my mother?”

“Well last time you rushed out of here you said mum to Logan and I assumed…”

She smiled. “Mum is a word we use for emergencies.”

“So it wasn’t your mother?”

“It was.” He waited for her to continue but when she didn’t say anything more he left her office. Amba smiled a small smile at what had just happened.

He’s not as bad as I thought he was.

Just then her boss knocked on her door. She stood up from her desk and motioned for him to come in.

“What brings you down here sir?”

“Oh stop with the formalities Amba, I’ve known you since you were a baby. Call me Logan like you normally do.” Scolded Logan Lawson Sr before pulling her into a hug.

Amba smiled. “Since we’re at work and you are my boss I’m going to call you sir. How are you doing now?”

“You are no fun now that you’ve grown up. I’m absolutely fine now.”

Amba laughed. “Hey that’s not fair I’m just being professional. Are you sure?”

He smiled. “Yes yes. How’s my favourite assistant and chief marketing manager doing?”

Amba immediately looked old and exhausted again. “There’s still no-”

Before she could complete her sentence the phone rang. He motioned for her to pick it up and as soon as she did her eyes widened.

“Mum?” He asked.

“Mum.” She confirmed.

“Go.” He ordered.

“Wanna come?”

“I have a meeting now but as soon as I finish I’ll be on my way, this is unavoidable. And don’t tell Logan you’re going, he’s in a meeting and he’s handling it very well. Call me as soon as you know the facts.”

“Ok, bye sir.” She grabbed her things and rushed out.

St Claire’s Hospital

Amba parked her car and made her way to the private room that her mother was in. As she approached she saw her father waiting outside the room looking just as dishevelled as 3 and half weeks ago.

“So?” She asked him.

“I haven’t gone in yet. The doctor’s called me to say she was awake but I didn’t have the courage to go in by myself.” He confessed.

She could see just how jittery he was so she held his hand and said, “Let’s do this together.”

When they pushed the door open Khushi was sitting up in her bed watching tv, she didn’t notice them come in so Karan cleared his throat. Khushi finally acknowledged that there were people in the room and looked up to see who it was.

“Arey Karan? What are you doing here?” She said in perfect Hindi whilst sporting a big confused smile.

Both Karan and Amba stared at her in shock and surprise. Khushi hardly ever spoke Hindi now a days. But then their brains caught up with what she had just said-What are you doing here?

HWGA Chapter 5: Midnight

I'm back. Plus there's a bit of swearing at the end, just letting you guys know and there will probably be swearing throughout the story.

Chapter 5: Midnight

Lawson’s Limited
It was midnight and Amba was the only person in the office besides the security. She had successfully completed all the work for the day and for the next 3 weeks. She had even managed to complete her assistant’s work and was contemplating starting on Logan’s work. She hadn’t taken a break since she came back from the hospital because she knew if she took a break she’d over think things and send herself in a dark place. She was just about to take a look at Logan’s work when her desk phone began to ring.

As soon as she picked up the caller said, “I can’t believe you’re still at the office.”

She sighed and put down the file she was holding. “How did you figure that one out?”

“I tried your mobile and couldn’t reach you.”

“You’re a regular Sherlock Holmes aren’t you dad?”

“What are you doing there so late?”

“Playing Monopoly with the security.” She said sarcastically.

He decided to play along with his daughter. “Who’s winning?”

“Dad!”

“Seriously Amba you work too hard.”

“Hard work has got me where I am today.”

“Aren’t you going to come home to see me off?”

“No.”

“Did you visit your mum again?”

“No. I sent Logan over there. You know his dad suffered a heart attack a couple of hours before mum’s accident so I thought he could visit her and his dad at the same time.”

“His dad’s in hospital?”

“Yes dad I just said that.”

“That must be really hard for him.”

“He’s a big boy, I’m sure he’ll survive.”

“Amba can you be more insensitive?”

“Yes, yes I can.” There was a pause and Amba could tell her father was trying to tell her something that was very difficult for him to say.

“I called Nik.”

“Why would you do that?! He’s on his honeymoon for God’s sake. He doesn’t need unnecessary stress!”

“I thought he could come back-”

“Dad I don’t need a babysitter!” She stressed, “Why couldn’t you just let him enjoy his honeymoon?”

“I’m going to be in America for a long time-”

“I can take care of mum and myself perfectly fine! I’m going to call him and tell him not to come.”

“What about grandma and granddad?” There was silence on the other end and Karan could mentally picture his daughter counting back from 10 to get her anger in check.

“No thank you. Seeing them 4 times a year is enough for me.”

“Why do you hate them so much?”

“Because they’re always talking shit about mum and me!” she shouted.

“Amba-”

“I. Don’t. Need. A. Babysitter! I’m an adult.”

“Fine. I’ll cancel every arrangement I made for you.”

“Thank you. Dad I didn’t mean to offend you about your parents.”

“It’s alright, I know what you mean. Do you think we should inform your mum’s family?”

“You know how she feels about calling them about accident and injury. She didn’t contact them about her surgery last year.”

“This is different. She’s unconscious and she could be a totally different person after she wakes up.”

“Let’s call them after she wakes up.”

“I’ll give you Payal’s number in case she wakes up before I come back.”

“Ok. Have a safe flight dad. How long are you going to be in America?”

“Thank you and two and a half weeks. Go home Amba you need rest and take some time off.”

“I’ll try, love you.”

“I love you too.”

She put the phone down and sighed. It had been a really long day. Her hair was coming out of her perfect bun, her clothes were crumpled and her stilettos were God knows where. She plonked down on her chair and rubbed her forehead when the door opened.

“I knew you’d still be here.”

“How’s your dad Logan?”

“He’s fine.” He said making himself comfortable in the chair opposite her.

“Really? He’s just had a heart attack and now he’s fine?”

“Yep.”

She knew Logan and his dad had their differences but this indifference was just wrong. “Logan-

He stood up abruptly and said, “Grab your stuff, I’ll wait in the car.”

“Which car?”

“Your car.”

“What about yours?”

“It’ll stay here duh.”

“And how exactly are you going to come to work?” She began gathering her things and followed him out.

“With you.” She gave him a look. “Oh come on, we’re next door neighbours. We’ve known each other since you were 2 and you can’t give me a ride to work?”

She smirked. “That’s how I roll bitch.”

He faked a shocked expression and put a hand on his chest. “I am shocked and appalled at the language you use.”

“Do you want a ride or not?”

He straightened up. “Yes please.”

“Then get in the fucking car!”

“Yes ma’am.” He did a mock salute and got in the car. The drove silently for a while before Logan broke the suffocating silence.

“Want to grab a drink before heading home?”

“I’m dying for one, let’s go.” She made a detour towards the bar.

Arhi OS: I will love you till the end of time

The stuff in italics is memories. This OS is linked to my FF Here We Go Again but it can be read separately. Listen to Lana Del Rey's Blue Jeans to get into the mood.

Disclaimer: I don't own IPKKND or it's characters. I don't own Lana Del Rey's music. But I do own the storyline for this concept.

It was a cool night in Delhi and a quiet night in the Raizada Mansion. Arnav Singh Raizada glanced at the clock on his wall before stepping out into the poolside. It had been one heck of a week and he decided to reflect upon what exactly happened. He smiled. He had finally won over Khushi in all sense of her, mind, body and soul. It had of course been difficult; life is seldom easy for him and Khushi. But this week she had given him everything and finally he felt more content then he had in a long time. However being Khushi Kumar Gupta Singh Raizada she had had her conditions. She insisted, now that the truth about Shyam had come out, that the truth about their marriage be revealed to everyone too and of course he had complied.

“Nani! Akash, Payal, Mamiji! NK, Di! I need to tell you all something very important. Please come to the living room immediately.”

“Hello hi bye bye, Arnav betwa why is you shouting so early in the mornings?”

“Hold on Mami, I’ll tell you all what’s going on as soon as the Gupta’s get here.”

“Why have you invited Pati Sari’s family?”

“Because they have a right to know what I’m going to say too. It’s going to affect both families.”

By this time all the Raizada’s had assembled in the living room with concerned faces. Before they could start up another interrogation, Arnav gave them a look that shut them up. Not before long the Gupta’s arrived asking similar questions. He sighed heavily before beginning and all throughout the explanation Khushi had been by his side holding his hand. After he had finished, all he received was shocked faces and silence and that only lasted a minute before everyone erupted in outrage.

“Hai re Nandkishore! Khushi you’re coming home with us right now.” Demanded Buaji.

“No she’s not. Her contract still isn’t over yet. And if she want to go after that I’ll let her but right now she is still my wife and a Raizada bahu, so she will remain here for the time being.”

“Chote, don’t you think that should be Khushi’s decision after all you’ve put her through?” Anjili insisted.

Before he could speak again Khushi intervened. “It’s ok Anjiliji I agreed to stay the full length of the contact so I’ll stay until it’s over. And maybe even after that if you’ll still accept me.” Arnav beamed at what Khushi had said. There was still hope for them.

“Of course we’ll still accept you Khushi betia.”

“No! Absolutely not! After this fake marriage ends, you’ll come straight home and then we’ll go back to Lucknow and away from this man!” Spat Garima. Arnav felt dejected that Auntyji had not called him Damadji but soon recoved, she had the right to feel angry at him. If he was in her position, he’d do a lot worse.

“No one can make that decision for Khushi. It’s her choice.”

Arnav shook his head to clear the memory. The Gupta’s had refused to leave without Khushi but after a private conversation, Khushi had managed to convince them to go home. Akash had refuse to talk to him after that unless it was business related and NK still refuses to look at him, let alone be in the same room. Even Mamiji looked at him in disgust. The only people who were talking to him was Nani and Di and even they have a hard time looking at him the same way. He sighed heavily. Everything will be fine, he thought, it had to be.

He let him mind wonder to Khushi’s slightly odd behaviour for the past two week. He hadn’t noticed it at first because he was mostly in AR when she went out but soon he had began to pick up on it.

“Where are you going Khushi?”

“I’m meeting a friend of mine.”

“I’ll drop you off.”

“No no no no no. It’s ok, Arnavji, I don’t want to disturb your work and I can take the car if it makes you feel better.”

He could see just how anxious she was to get out of the house with out him. “Ok but if you need anything call me.”

She breathed a sigh of relief before smiling at him and exiting their room. Arnav had continued to work until he heard the front door close. He then grabbed his keys and followed his wife to see why she didn’t want him to accompany her. He had managed to follow her undetected to a roadside dabba and what he saw made his blood boil. There was his Khushi hugging a strange man! Not just any man, a handsome man that could easily make her smile. He forced himself to stay calm. The last time he had judged Khushi it had been disastrous.

He chose to drive away not being able to bear the sight of them two being so happy. He would let Khushi tell him herself about the little rendezvous’ she’s been having with this man. No matter how hard he tried not to think about them two he just couldn’t and soon began to panic. What if Khushi was in love with this man and because of the contact she couldn’t be with him? What if she had loved this man all this time and him and Shyam were only thorns on their love? Just because she said she didn’t have an affair with Shyam it doesn’t mean she wasn’t in a relationship. And then came the thought that destroyed the great ASR; he had said he loved her but she hadn’t said it back.

Waiting for Khushi to come back home was agonising. By the time Khushi had finally got home, he restrained himself from grabbing her and demanding some answers.

“Arnavji, I need to talk to you.” She said nervously. Arnav had prepared himself for all kind of worst case scenarios but now that the time had come, he didn’t know what he was going to do. He motioned for her to continue.

“I know you’re probably wondering why I didn’t want you to come along with me to meet my friend.” He shrugged nonchalantly. “Well you see, my childhood friend has some back to India to put his wife’s ashes in the Ganges and since I haven’t seen him in a while and he was in India, I thought I’d go meet up with him.” Arnav let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. “I didn’t want you to come because he is still very emotional about his wife’s death and he just needed to talk to someone he knew, if you came it would’ve been really awkward for him. I’m sorry Ar-” But before she could finish he had engulfed her in a hug.

“Is that all?” He asked after a while.

“Umm yes. Why?”

“No reason.” He said grinning.

Arnav smiled at the memory. He still couldn’t believe how he had over reacted seeing Khushi with another man. Arnav was interrupted in his thoughts when he heard the poolside doors side open. He turned to see his young wife holding out a glass of milk to him. He quickly drank the milk and pulled her into their room.

“Khushi I know what I said about the contract but I really do love you. And I know that there’s only 2 hours left before you won’t be my wife anymore but you need to know that I love you and trust you completely. If you do choose to leave after the contract is over, I promise I won’t chase you and I’ll let you go. The divorce papers are on the table, sign them before you go, if you choose to go. Do you understand Khushi?”

“Yes Arnavji.”

“Good. Will you let me make love to you for perhaps the last time?” She nodded and he complied.

The next morning Arnav woke up slightly groggy but thoroughly satisfied that he still had a wife. He was then given the shock of his life when he’s wife wasn’t in the bed beside him. Dread filled his entire being. He opened the wardrobe to find all her belongings gone. He checked the bathroom and none of her toiletries were there. He glanced at the table where the divorce paper were and felt physically sick. He stumbled over to it and saw that there was an envelope and his mother’s bangles along with a signed divorce paper. His world came crumbling down when he saw this and his shaky fingers opened the letter.

Dear Arnavji,

By the time you read this I’ll be long gone. You might be feeling a bit groggy and that because I mixed sleeping pills in your milk. Please forgive me but I had to pack and leave quickly and quietly and I didn’t want to disturb you. I have completed the full 6 months and now leave you in peace. Please don’t ruin my sister’s marriage or pursue me. I’ve left for several reasons not just because our contract has ended. I’m young Arnavji, too young to be married. I’ve always wanted to continue my education but I couldn’t because of our financial problem, but now I can. I want to see the world and do all sorts of crazy things that young people do. I know what you’re thinking, how is she going to do all that if she doesn’t have any money? Don’t worry about that Arnavji, in fact don’t worry about me. Forget all about me and the times we’ve had, it’ll be easier for everyone this way. There’s one last reason I need to leave. I can’t bear to see Di everyday as I feel guilty about the whole Shyam thing. This way she doesn’t have to be constantly reminded of the woman her husband wanted. Before you start your search for me because I know you’ll at least try to find me, ask yourself one question; who do I love more, Khushi or Di? If the answer’s Di, then don’t try and find me, live your life and forget about me. If the answer’s me, then don’t try to find me because this is what I want. And if you truly love me you’ll respect my wish. I return your mother’s bangles to you in hope they find their rightful owner. I wish you all the happiness in the world and I hope you achieve all your goals in life. I love you and have always loved you and only you.

Yours Khushi.

Of course Arnav had gone completely berserk after he saw the papers, read the letter and found the bangles. It had taken all the Prakash brothers, Akash and NK to restrain him. Arnav Singh Raizada never admits defeat, so he calmed down and drove to the Gupta residence. She wasn’t there but they did know of her whereabouts and no amount of pleading, begging and threatening made them tell him where she was. He returned to RM and started grilling Payal for information but she wasn’t budging and when he started to get a bit violet, Akash had roughly removed him from his room. Since no one was telling him anything, he hired the best private detectives in the country to look for her.

I will find you Khushi Kumar Gupta Singh Raizada, he vowed. And sure enough the detective found her whereabouts in Mumbai, she was staying with someone called Karan Singh Malik. Further investigation on the man suggested that he was her childhood friend and that he had come to India to put his wife’s ashes in the Ganges. Satisfied with the fact that she was safe and with someone that she knew, he stopped monitoring her.

“Well Khushi, you got your wish, I won’t pursue you anymore. But I’m confident that one way or another you’ll come back to me. Until then I will love you till the end of time.”
